Hello there! Welcome to my blog!

My name is Jessie, and I run Crisp Sandwich Studio, a small photography and stop motion animation studio located in the corner of The Biscuit Tin Studios in Newcastle. I opened this cosy studio in October 2024, and it’s been quite an adventurous journey since then. Transitioning to full-time self-employment certainly presents its challenges, especially without a financial cushion to support a risky lifestyle. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s certainly never been dull, which suits me perfectly.

I’ve been told that I have quite a pronounced form of ADHD, which means I’m naturally wired for creative thinking, intense focus, relentless optimism, and, occasionally, losing my keys. Interestingly, many small businesses are started by creative ADHDers, and I genuinely love how we are all wired in this way, if you don’t fit into society’s norms, why not create your own?

Over the years, I’ve founded several businesses, including a vegan café with a friend back in 2016. However, I’ve been a photographer for many years, and that’s always remained a constant passion. The beauty of photography as a medium is its versatility: it allows you to explore so many different avenues. I’ve had the opportunity to work across a wide range of fields; fashion, weddings, food, corporate events, charities, products, nightclubs, headshots, renaissance style portraits, family photography, and more!

In addition, I also do quite a bit of stop motion animation. I’ve collaborated with several local businesses, bringing their products to life with character through stop motion, which is quite a fun process. It does require patience and time, but there’s a certain charm in the delightful results.

One of my main roles involves creating headshots for the talented creatives of the North East. It’s a wonderful way to meet interesting individuals and, quite often, adds a little extra income too. Many people feel quite apprehensive about being photographed, but I love helping them develop confidence. I find that the difference between the initial shots and those taken towards the end of the session can be quite remarkable, it’s not just about taking pleasing photos, but also about a bit of photo therapy. I’ve been told that I have a calming demeanour that helps put clients at ease, leaving them feeling uplifted after the shoot, something I take great pride in and hope to continue supporting others with.

I will occasionally update this blog with insights on photography techniques, details about various projects, personal pursuits, and publications.

Thank you very much for reading my first blog post! Wishing you a wonderful day,

Jessie x
